What's Cookin: Breakfast Time

Breakfast time at our house is quite predictable. We almost always enjoy a bowl of creamy oatmeal no matter what the weather is like outside. Even in the summer it proves to be a comfort food for us. This is J's oatmeal creation. Doesn't it look so beautifully yummy?

Oatmeal has so many health benefits. It is delicious, and filling, and has no additives or preservatives. For our growing family, it is very economical. (A box of dry cereal can disappear in one sitting at our table-- and at an average of $3 a box, that is a pricey breakfast! A $2 canister of oatmeal will feed us for about 5 meals.)

It makes me very sad when people say they get tired of oatmeal. For us, oatmeal is a blank canvas. We top it so many ways, it does not get boring! Everyone at our table can custom make it to their own preference. It's just as fun as topping your own ice-cream sundae.

Here are a few of our favorite toppings:
Raisins, Dried Cranberries
Brown Sugar
Wheat Germ
Flax Seed
Coconut
Toasted nuts
Fresh Fruit: Raspberries, Peaches, Bananas, Blueberries, etc.
Cinnamon
Frozen Fruit: Triple Berry Blend

Trust me, Breakfast Oatmeal is only limited by your imagination.

hey Tesa!
What is your favorite way to cook your oatmeal? I've heard of making it in the crockpot... but do you prefer the stove?

Also, do you have a good recipe for applesauce? I have a sackful of mushy apples on my hands & am looking for a way to put them to good use!
