For the birds

Studying God's beautiful creation in our own backyard has been such a pleasure. I am in awe of how much we can learn in our own backyard if I just slow down and take the time to actually see what is out there.

We were privileged to check out this great resource from the library (it's going on our most wanted list!). It includes portraits of birds and a recorded portion of the bird's song. Our whole family has had great fun learning the calls of so many birds! It's quite thrilling to see different members of the family (myself included) suddenly come bursting in the door seeking out the bird book--"I just heard a new bird song-- I need to figure out what bird that is!!"

We have started a list of birds we have seen or heard in our back yard. It has reached 12 different species. I am sure there are many more. I would love to begin a bird journal with the kids... with drawings and journal entries about the characteristics of the birds we observe.
