Vacation: Keepin' it simple, inexpensive and fun

We're packin' up for an 8 day road trip. Beautiful northern midwest...here we come.

Library
checked out audio books: Peter Pan; Pippi Longstocking, On the Banks of Plum Creek
various picture/chapter books for each member of the family at their own level


Items for Picnics
blanket
cutting board/knife
disposable plates/cups/paper towels


Great Snack/Picnic items
home-made bread and chicken salad
hard boiled eggs
baby carrots
grapes
apples
cheese sticks
toasted nuts
raisins
bite sized crackers (goldfish)
dry cereal
100% pure juice boxes
lots of water
(soda for the hubby... :)

Amusements Packed
nature journals
flash cards (what can I say... I am a teacher)
music
note books/crayons
colorforms for the windows
bubbles

Googled towns along our route and found these free/interesting things to do on our "restroom stops":
  • Free fire station museum
  • Antique carousel ($1/person)
  • Wild Flower Garden--free
  • Nature trails by canyon walls/waterfalls/rapids--free
  • Cabella's (clean restrooms and fun to look around!)

Also, we printed off a map of the U.S. for each member of the family. We will color each state for which we see a licence plate.

We are off to experience wonderful togetherness as a family... good fellowship...and God's amazing creation. Hope to post pictures upon our return!
