It was her birthday...

amidst a busy month of holiday festivities, a major home improvement project, and visiting with out of town company.

One of the favorite birthday traditions is for the kiddos to help make their birthday dessert. They each truly delight in the special-ness of this!

Lily chose to make a chocolate snowman cake.

It was delicious frosted with a mixture of home-made whipped cream, cream cheese, and a bit of sugar to sweeten.

She decorated it with chocolate chip buttons, peppermint stick arms, and a real carrot nose. It was so cute!
Other highlights of our day included the birthday donuts, a trip to the children's museum, lunch out, and a walk at a downtown city park. Her dinner selection was home-made mac'n'cheese with chicken nuggets and steamed broccoli. We were able to share the special dinner with relatives- even her special uncle, aunt and cousin who were visiting from Texas!

Happy Birthday to my little girl...
who is becoming such a beautiful little lady.
This year you have learned to read, quite effortlessly.
You love to color, and have exhausted several coloring books cover to cover.
You are so eager to help me in the kitchen...you will be an excellent baker!
You know how to make your bed an clean your room and you are a wonderful helper.
The Lord has blessed you with skills to be an attentive big sister, too.
You have become more independent and confident in who the Lord made you.
I am excited to see what wonderful things you will do this year that you are six!

Such a neat birthday tribute to your sweet little girl. I love the idea of having the birthday child help make/decorate the cake. It looks like she had a lot of fun doing it.
