Learning in The Real World

You can sit at a desk and read a textbook to learn about seeds and growth...or you can conduct a seed growing experiment. Even better is finding a maple seed in your back yard that has sprouted from it's seed pod (you know those helicopter things?) and sent up a shoot and grown emergent leaves. When that happens you cradle it carefully and run with excitement to show your mom. Then you plant it carefully in a pot on the deck to preserve it and watch it grow until it is big enough to plant in the yard and be safe from mowers and running feet.
