New Neighbors

Spring has officially arrived. This means we begin to live outdoors! We do school work outside, snacks and meals outside, and make more and more discoveries about the world around us!

Today we began to observe some new neighbors. We have some delightful little birds who seem interested in moving into the birdhouses that the boys have made. These bird houses have hung on our deck post since we moved in, but they have sat vacant for nearly three years now. Last spring Mr. Woodpecker thought about taking up residence- and he even remodeled the entry way a bit, but he was a bit skittish and did not care for the hustle and bustle of little feet running past on the deck. These new little birds have a beautiful song, and have been flying in and out all day. So we think they are busy making the place comfortable. J decided to help, and in a thoughtful gesture, provided a few piles of building supplies near the post: a bit of dirt, a few sticks, some nice soft grass, and even a bit of hair left over from N's haircut.

Other observations of the day included a centipede, an interesting jumping spider, the groundhog, and the four tiny baby bunnies. We observed lots of clover, made patterns out of wild flowers, sculpted with sand, swept with pine tree boughs, and climbed trees.

And now it is time for rest. Because tomorrow is another busy day- with lots more discoveries to make, and adventures to be had.
